Pushing boundaries with new RIC cable-as-antenna technology for hearing aids
“First-of-its-kind” Bluetooth antenna cable for hearing aids, cutting power use and component count
Estron a/s, developer and manufacturer of miniature wires, cables and connectors for the hearing aid industry, introduces a breakthrough: Es-Linum® Antenna, a cable that serves as a Bluetooth antenna.
The innovation tackles one of the industry’s most pressing challenges – reducing power consumption and component count, while enabling new design freedom.
Market context
Hearing aid manufacturers are in a constant race to:
- Prolong battery life
- Design smaller and more discreet devices
- Keep production costs down
Estron’s cable-as-Bluetooth-antenna concept allows manufacturers to move the Bluetooth module outside the hearing aid itself. This reduces the number of components, lowers power usage, and creates greater design flexibility.
Technology breakthrough
Estron pioneered automated cut and tinned litz wires, and was the first to replace acoustic tubes with cables. With the new antenna solution, based on the well-documented es-Linum® cables, Estron builds on 30 years of expertise in micro connections and brings another step change to the industry.
Chief Technologist Carit Laursen states:
“We had the idea for this concept eight years ago, but the right materials didn’t exist. With a recent breakthrough, we’ve finally been able to make a cable that serves as the Bluetooth antenna – a bendable cable with shape memory that is self-restoring under repeated stress.”
Ready for market
CEO Peter Lyhne Uhrenholt adds:
“Getting here in time for EUHA has required both investment in new machinery and a strong focus on performance stability, but the result is a true innovation and a real step forward for the industry.”
Estron is now inviting partners in the hearing aid industry to test and validate the new technology in application.
